The old basement
We had to decide what to do with this basement. We knew we wanted to make an area for the homeowner to watch sports and movies. |
So where do we start?
Sometimes the funnest part of a remodel is to remove and 'demolish' the existing area. |
Framing.
We framed in all around the block basement wall so we could insulate the walls. This area was now to be used and we needed to be able to conserve the heat in this room. |
Bar area.
During our intial interview, we found out that the homeowners wanted to entertain guests in this new room. We added a bar, sink, and refrigerator. |
More Framing.
We needed to build a wall for the big screen TV to be against. This wall was also insulated. |
New wall.
This wall needed to be framed in also, so that we could insulate this section. |
New bathroom.
Because we added the plumbing for the new sink, we decided on adding a bathroom downstairs also. We added a sink, toilet, and shower unit. |
New throne.
Here is a look at this new bathroom. |
Reading light.
The homeowners like to read, so we added a reading light in the most likely spot that one would read. It is activated by a switch and ready for use anytime the homeowners feel the need to read. |
Walk in closet.
The homeowners were in desparate need of more closet space, so we added a huge walk in closet at the bottom of the stairs. We added the tile to the floor in this area. |
Entry into the theatre room.
We added this door to seperate the rooms from each other. |
Custom handrail
We created this handrail from scratch. It is made of pine to match the other tongue and groove pine on the walls. |
Golf ball.
The homeowner shoots a mean game of golf, here, John had the idea to add one of his trophy golf balls to our creation. |
Trophy laundry room.
We re-vamped the laundry room with tile, new shelves, task lights, a custom pull down set of clothes lines, and drywall. The fresh paint job livened up this area and this room is now one of the homeowners favorite rooms in the entire house. |
Bar area.
This remodel is getting close to done now. This new bar area is a great place to replenish ones need. Also, with the little TV in the corner, you are sure to see the big game no matter where you are at in the room. |
Custom shutters.
The windows have custom shutters to block the light during daytime games. This eliminates any glares on the TV screens. |
Wall of Fame.
We added some of the homeowners golfing accolades. Notice the custom made speaker shelf. |
There is something missing.
This TV was temporary, as the homeowners counted the days until their new high definition set arrived. |
The completed room.
This room is now complete. It is insulated in the walls and the ceiling and maintains the temperature very well. An electric baseboard heater shown in the picture keeps the room at a comfortable temperature for pennies a day. This warmth compliments the entire room which has gained us many praises for our designs and custom made features. |
Before and After.
So, we have taken this basement in a new exciting direction. We added a bathroom, a bar area, a theatre room, walk in closet and custom features throughout. We revamped the laundry room, pantry, storage room, all the floors, and updated the entire plumbing to copper supply lines and PVC drain lines. Wow, what else can we do? |
New sliding door and deck.
We removed to windows in the back bedroom, cut the brick, and installed a new Pella sliding door. We then started to build a big custom deck. |
Another shot of the deck.
The purpose of the deck is for entertainment, so we built it tough with 2x10s. |
Handrailing.
This style of handrail is designed to be tough. This deck is tough as nails. |
A far out look.
Here is a look at the deck from a distant. |
A large deck.
This picture shows the size of the deck. The homeowners wanted a large deck for years and now they have one. |
Welcome.
The entry to the deck is topped with copper post caps. And a custom railing. |
Composite decking.
This solid composite decking is maintenance free and very strong. This solid composite decking is warranted against fading. |
Thank you.
We remodeled the top half of the house a few years ago. We are working on adding those 35mm pictures to the computer. For now, enjoy this 'snow free' picture and stay tuned. |
